10:29 am - Sisters - we're wrong! We've never had it do good! I shouldn't find it funny, but I'm muchly amused by the M&S chairman Sir Stuart Rose's comments in the Observer (as reported on the BBC website). The real gems are:
"you've got more equality than you ever can deal with"
Ah. Because women aren't very good at 'dealing' with things - our little heads are all full of fluff! And we don't want 'equality' - just enough that we can deal with...
"no glass ceilings, despite the fact that some of you moan about it all the time"
Those pesky feminists, always trying to spoil the fun!
"there are many girls in here who've got two kids who come to work"
Girls, Sir Stuart? Do you mean you emply hard-up teenage mothers? Or are you actually refering to *women*, you patronising little toad?

08:55 am - Amnesty Greetings Card Campaign The Amnesty Greetings Card Campaign LJ community
I want you to add me to your greetings card list!
Well, not me, exactly.
Between 1 November and 31 January, Amnesty International is asking supporters to send cards with messages of hope and solidarity to people in danger or unjustly imprisoned.
You can read more about the campaign here. Please have a look.
I know it's often difficult to get involved in campaigns and take part in stuff we want to take part in. We're stuck for time, we've got so much on we forget about stuff...and the Amnesty campaign lists so many people - where do I start? So it struck me - an easy way to take part in the campaign by sending just one additional card this festive season.
I'd like to ask two things - if you could do one, or the other, or both, that would be great.
The first thing I'm asking is for people to volunteer to post one card.
If you would like to volunteer to do this, just leave a comment on aiuk_cards. I'll then reply to your comment with one case in the Amnesty campaign, and a link to their details on Amnesty's website. You just add that person to your greetings card list, and post it with all your others. (Check postage at your post office!)
The second thing I'm asking, is for people to put an entry in their journal, directing people to aiuk_cards.
In case you're interested, I'm giving out the details randomly but systematically, if that makes sense - no priorities, none regarded as more important than others. If you send one card, the you're also helping all the other cards get out too. Any other information you need to know you'll be able to find on Amnesty's site.
Time to get this snowball rolling!
